4 snakes in one week!

That's right. Well we had heard the VBS was trying to get a hold of a snake so we had been keeping our eyes peeled since we have black snakes around the farm sometimes. Well I was really surprised when Monday I hear Samson (dog who barks a lot...esp Saturday nights when I'm trying to sleep) barking, look out and see him facing off with a black snake on the road right in front of the house. I went back to the laundry room to get a pillowcase and told the boys there was a snake out front. Well both Mike and Mom were out so I had the boys by myself, and Abe was screaming (teething and hungry) but I wanted to get a snake. One problem: I've never picked up a snake from off the ground. My dad consistently brought them in the house for us to pet growing up, and I'm not too afraid of them since we don't have any poisonous ones around here. (Oh I just thought of another funny snake story from my childhood that includes my sister Whitney:) Anyway when I got back out I didn't see it but Caleb spotted his tail going into the bushes in the front of the house. I watched him slither down the front (and had my best opportunity to get him, but I chickened out and he went under the corner bush. I asked Caleb to keep an eye on hm while I went to get a stick to help me. On way to the back of the house to get a stick I see another black snack draped over a rock in front of the woods. I got a stick and tried to lift him but he was too heavy for my stick and got away into the woods, I headed back to the other one but it was gone. I was a little disappointed in myself for not being braver but glad not to be bit. Well then they ended up finding a local pet shop to bring in snakes for the VBS. When she tried to see if any of the men wanted to hold the pastel boa no one took her up on the offer but someone noticed me eyeing it and said something so I got to hold the Pastel Boa, I think its my first to hold by myself. Then she pulled out a Ball Python. Caleb got to pet that one, Titus didn't want to. Not quite as interesting (or scary) as my sister Holly's snake experiences in Cameroon Africa but that was my snake week stories. This picture shows the snake I was bold enough to hold...and yes I was shaking.

What in the world ever possessed you to even try doing that without Dad? OF course, when it comes to snakes, I am never the brave one!

I think that is hilarious...I could just see you attempting to pick up the snake and at the last minute deciding not to. I bet Titus was not too happy about that one. I think your story is definitely as interesting as mine...I didn't touch any snakes. Marie claire was telling us about a cobra that lives in the field right across from our house...she saw it one day with its head up and "flippers" out--I can't think what they are really called. I'm hoping I never see him alive. =)

Oh, you are much more brave than I!!! I would have ran the other way rather than going after it! I'm not a fan at all of snakes or spiders for that matter! We had black widows GALORE behind our house in FL! Scared me because Aaron loved to play outside. We saw one that had caught and killed one of those geckos! That's CRAZY!!!! Anyway, sounds like you've had an exciting week!
