So Saturday morning I woke up to voice of my sister in the living room. It was a very unexpected but good surprise then we found out she also brought 2 of my other siblings home to help my parents with the Sweetheart banquet that evening. So my parents, 3 siblings and I went to the community center as it opened at 10. We set up the tables and decorated. The picture here certainly doesn't do it justice. My dad had searched our woods for some lovely trees, spray painted them white and then we decorated them with white lights. Along the ceiling we hung curtains and bright red panels that circled the 5 tables that were set up. There were also red geraniums, and black posts. My brother draped netting along the ceiling and the room was so nice when we were done. Then it was on to getting the food ready. We started with the salads. Using slices of cucumber to make rings to hold the salad then adding single pieces of whole raw vegetables like carrot, red pepper, broccoli, red onion. Then topped it with homemade croutons and bacon. At this point I left to go to a baby shower. Mike was home all day with the boys. Then when we returned that night for the banquet we got to be recipients of all their hard work. We had such wonderful Prime Rib with Au Jue sauce, loaded potatoes, deviled egg and green beans. Then we had dessert but thankfully they were all these bite size things like cheesecake, eclairs, brownies with marchino cherry whip cream on top...I hardly had any room left but was able to stuff in two tastes of those. Next Mike and I had prepared some games...guess how many kisses in the jar, and the newly wed game and then we also gave out candy bars to couples who had been married the longest, newest married, most children, and wedding closest to Valentine's day. Mike did his mousetrap skit too and then gave a devotional about submitting to one another. It was a nice time and before it began Mike gave me my Valentine's gift - a pink sapphire ring, necklace and earring set. Gorgeous! Grandma Martz volunteered to watch the boys for us. The older two played the Wii the whole time and Abe brought every book on the bookshelf to her to read but it went fine and we were thankful she was able to do that for us.
