Come December 30th we are moving to a single wide, 2 bedroom house on my parent's farm. Therefore we had a lot of stuff to get rid of. You may wonder why we don't just put the rest in storage but with the cost of shipping to New Zealand and paying customs, we felt it better to just sell it. It's not always the easiest to get rid of all the things that hold memories but sometimes necessary.

Don't worry we still all have beds to sleep on and plenty of other furniture, it really makes you evaluate what you need and what is extra. Boy, God surely has blessed us above what we need. So Friday and Saturday we had a Moving Sale, God held off the rain and allowed the right people to come by. We really didn't have a huge number come by but the ones that did bought a lot. We got rid of almost all our bigger items and made enough money to cover our moving truck and gas money for it. Praise the Lord!

I think you're going to really enjoy your simplified life. At least we did. We spent our two years of deputation with all of our stuff stored at a church and we lived in someone's upstairs (Dan wasn't working and when we started full time deputation, we were at 11% so we couldn't afford rent). A few random things that come to mind are the simplicity of just having five towels, six of each piece of silverware, three plates, a few bowls for the girls, a toaster oven and microwave in place of a stove/oven, etc. We had to get creative especially when people came over but it was a good adventure.
We also chose not to take a container from the States. Like you said, the shipping and customs prices are so outrageous here too, and after enjoying living a simplified life in the States, we decided we would go on living that way in many ways when we got here to Cameroon. We did bring 20 pieces of luggage with us on the plane that could only weigh 50 pounds each which worked out so well for us. It only cost $120 for each piece over two per ticket and the Lord allowed us to go through customs at the airport without paying any customs fees. What a gift from the Lord. Since we're in a city, we could purchase what we really thought we needed/wanted here.
Oh what good memories. When we decided not to take a container, people looked through our stuff stored at the church and it's fun to think our couch is with this person, our baby stuff is with that person, our office chair is with this person, our TV is with this family, and on and on. We've had a few people comment to us since we've been here how our stuff in their house reminds them of us and to pray for us.
Sorry for the long comment. I am so excited for you guys. Deputation has its difficulties especially with young children, but it was a very special time! So many good memories of what God did. I can't believe how quickly those two years went by although there were days when Dan had spent four hours on the phone and not gotten a single meeting...okay, I gotta' stop rambling. :-)
that is awesome, and sad, all mixed up together... but all good. (ok, so i am not making any sense.
Praise hte Lord!
