Camping adventure

So earlier this week Mike mentioned to me that he was looking into going camping this weekend. I thought it a little strange but know it is one of the few times Mike gets days off work. Temperatures have been unpredictable lately but mostly its still been nice and besides we are making the most of our weekends before leaving Florida. Mike tried to reserve a spot at our favorite place but they were all full minus 3 walk in spots. We got different stories about how that worked..like you couldn't get them till one...but while we were on our way (Friday) we called (now 1 o'clock) and they said they had already been filled. So we typed into our GPS another spot we know of with electricity and water on site...couldn't get a hold of them by phone ...they were full as well. They suggested we try a campsite on the other side of the river, this time we took the ferry across (pretty cool and a first for us). They did have spots open and were only $10. We found out why, they were very close spots, no trees, no electricity or water on site. Thankfully we had not designed our menu around the originally planned griddle idea but took hot dogs, S'mores, and pop tarts instead (which I picked up at the store that morning). This also meant no air mattress which we brought along instead of the egg crate, I tried to lay extra towels under us but that only ended up being worse because one of the corners got rolled up and I thought it was a stick under the tent, and had to lay a certain way all night to avoid "it" and had a really sore hip by morning. It was 81 degrees when we got there so after unpacking and setting up our area we went to the "beach" - in this case the St John's river, it was muddy sand and colder than expected. We did walk along it looking for shells - even Titus enjoyed it. Then we returned to camp to make dinner but the store was not open and we didn't have firewood (something else the other spot sells). Mike ended up going to Little Talbot to get the wood by then it was much cooler and after cooking our hot dogs over the fire we headed into the tent to get out of the wind. Later we made S'mores and roasted marshmallows followed by playing Bingo, Uno, and made up stories in the tent. I talked to Laura and Will as the boys all fell asleep, they were on their way to Cambodia for a 10 day medical mission trip and had a layover in LA. We all got to bed early but many people in the other areas stayed up till 3, keeping us awake. I was a little cold, and slept in my sweatshirt. I think it got down in the 50's, everyone else was fine. In the morning we sat around the fire then played at the playground before packing up and heading back home. It definitely was not one of our best camping experiences but it was so nice to get away from all the media , conveniences and pressures at the house. The boys had a really great time as well, I asked Caleb what he liked best and he said 3 things..walking on the beach, playground, playing games in the tent, cooking marshmallows, ...he liked it all. Abe did great too and seemed to sleep most of the time. SO how many of you have ever been camping in November?
